My name is Riaan van Zyl, a devoted husky dad from Brakpan, South Africa. In April 2025, I was retrenched from the job I had dedicated years to, and since then, I’ve been struggling to survive, while doing everything I can to care for my two beautiful Siberian Huskies, Nala and Lexi. These girls are not just pets, they’re my family, my strength, and the reason I keep fighting. I’m humbly asking for support to help us stay together, stay safe, and get through this storm with dignity.

MEET MY FAMILY: NALA & LEXI

I never imagined I’d be in this heartbreaking situation, reaching out for emergency support just to survive. But today, I’m doing exactly that, with humility and hope in my heart.

Let me tell you a little about my dogs. Nala and Lexi are both Siberian Huskies and have been my loyal companions for over eight years. They are more than pets, they are my family. They’ve brought me peace, laughter, and comfort through every chapter of life. Now, they’re my strength during this financial crisis, and I can’t imagine life without them.

RETRENCHED, BUT STILL FIGHTING

In April 2025, I was retrenched from my job in Brakpan, South Africa, a devastating moment that left me without income or stability. My final salary covered a few weeks of rent and food, but now the funds are gone.

I’ve been applying for jobs daily, trying to stay hopeful while doing everything I can to keep a roof over our heads. But I’m falling behind. I'm not asking for luxury, I'm just trying to keep my dogs fed, safe, and close.

SUNDAYS WE REMEMBER

Before everything changed, our Sundays were sacred. We’d walk through the park and share a small tub of vanilla ice cream, our own tradition. It was simple, joyful, and a reminder that love doesn’t have to cost much.

Today, it’s just the walks. But their tails still wag, and they still greet me with love and loyalty. Even in this storm, they don’t complain. But I know they feel the struggle too.
